This document specifies the test requirements for the performance of real-time positioning systems mainly for indoor navigation and describes its test methods. This document is applicable to the test and evaluation of the performance of real-time positioning systems mainly for indoor navigation.
Introduction

GB/T 31101—2023 Standard Revision Background and Significance

Since its release in 2014, GB/T 31101 has undergone a comprehensive revision for the first time. This revision mainly expands the applicability of the real-time location system (RTLS) performance test method, adds terms and symbols such as static positioning and dynamic positioning, and refines the test conditions and methods.

Comparative Analysis of Standard Frameworks

Dimensions 2014 Version Contents 2023 Version New/Modified Contents
Terms and Definitions Only includes positioning error indicators. Newly added terms such as circular error probability, spherical error probability, static positioning, and dynamic positioning (see Chapter 3).
Symbols Related symbols are not explicitly listed. Added multiple symbols related to static positioning and dynamic positioning (see Chapter 4).
Test conditions The test object consists of positioning equipment and systems, and the test environment only mentions the RF environment. It is refined into test objects, test environments, test arrangements, and other requirements (see Chapter 6).

Core technical changes in the standard revision

New terms: static positioning, dynamic positioning, circular error probable, spherical error probable.

Detailed requirements: The test layout is divided into four steps: selecting the test scene, building the coordinate system information, building the test points, and deploying the system under test (see Section 6.3).

Interpretation of main test indicators

  • Positioning accuracy: Measure the stability of multiple measurement results through standard deviation.
  • Positioning accuracy: Evaluate the deviation between the measured value and the true coordinate, using the circular error probable and spherical error probable indicators.
  • Positioning delay: The time difference from request to solution reflects the system response speed.

Implementation suggestions

In actual applications, it is recommended that the tester:

  1. Choose a suitable test scenario (indoor, outdoor or mixed scenario) according to the application scenario.
  2. Strictly build the coordinate system and select test points according to the standard requirements to ensure the validity of the test data.
  3. Pay attention to the concurrent performance and coverage of the positioning system, especially in large-scale deployment.
