Leather—Chemical tests—Determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons—Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (English Version)
GB/T 36946-2018 is a national standard of the People's Republic of China, entitled Leather Chemical Tests - Determination of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons - Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. This standard specifies the specific method for the detection of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in leather and leather products using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS).
PAHs are a class of highly toxic and carcinogenic chemicals that are widely present in industrial pollutants and the environment. During the leather manufacturing process, these harmful substances may remain in the finished product, posing a threat to human health and the environment. Therefore, establishing an effective detection method is crucial to ensure product quality and consumer safety.
The detection of PAHs has evolved from traditional spectrophotometry to modern chromatography technology. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry has become one of the most commonly used detection methods due to its high sensitivity, efficiency and accuracy. This standard adopts the advanced GC/MS method and combines it with the selected ion monitoring mode (SIM), which significantly improves the detection efficiency and accuracy.
