Scope: This document specifies the classification, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, labeling and accompanying documents, packaging, transportation and storage of industrial barium chloride. This document applies to industrial barium chloride. Note: This product is mainly used in metal heat treatment, barium salt manufacturing, pesticides, dehydrating agents, electronics, instruments, metallurgy, papermaking, pigments, rubber, plastics, ceramics, oil refining, petrochemicals and other industries, as well as sulfate in desalted water in the chlor-alkali industry.

Background and Development Process of the Standard

GB/T 1617 "Industrial Barium Chloride" has been revised many times since its first release in 1965, and is now the fifth revised edition (2023). This revision mainly optimizes the technical indicators, test methods and safety requirements.

2014 Edition	- Delete the Class I first-class product indicator;- Modify the requirements for sulfide and iron content;- Add the barium sulfate weight method for determining barium chloride.
2023 Edition	- Cancel the shelf life regulations for Class I;- Delete the safety content chapter;- Add the method for determining the content of strontium, calcium, iron and sodium by inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry.

Classification and technical requirements of industrial barium chloride

Industrial barium chloride is divided into two categories: Class I is high-purity barium chloride; Class II is ordinary barium chloride. The technical indicators of each category are as follows:

Standard Implementation Recommendations and Precautions

To ensure the quality and safety of industrial barium chloride, the following measures are recommended:

Laboratory equipment should be calibrated regularly to ensure analytical accuracy.
Operators should receive professional training and be familiar with the safety regulations for hazardous chemicals.
The storage environment should be moisture-proof and sun-proof, and avoid mixing with oxidants, acids and alkalis.
